Frequently Asked Questions

Call Now
  • What is a pink slip and when do I need one?

A pink slip, officially known as an eSafety Check, is a safety inspection report required for vehicles older than five years in New South Wales before they can be registered. The pink slip confirms that a vehicle is safe and roadworthy according to NSW standards. If your registration renewal notice requests an inspection, or if you are registering a used vehicle, you’ll need a valid pink slip before you can complete your registration with Service NSW. The pink slip process helps ensure that only safe vehicles are on the road.

  • What does a pink slip inspection include?

A pink slip inspection covers a thorough check of essential vehicle safety features. This typically includes inspections of brakes, tyres, suspension, steering, seatbelts, lights, indicators, windscreen, and general vehicle body condition. Mechanics will also assess fluid leaks and check that the car meets all NSW road safety requirements. If your vehicle passes, the results are sent electronically to the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), so you can renew your rego online or in person.

  • What happens if my car fails a pink slip inspection?

If a car does not meet safety standards during a pink slip inspection, the mechanic will issue a report listing any defects that need to be fixed. Vehicle owners are given 14 days to complete repairs and return for a free follow-up inspection. Once the issues are rectified and the car passes the re-inspection, the pink slip will be issued and sent to the RMS. If the repairs are not completed within 14 days, a new inspection and fee will apply.
